  • In the process of evaluation a name change for Novel Concept Studio. Talk about a step back! It’s needed from a branding standpoint though. #

Good luck in coming up with a new name! :) I’d suggest Googling it, and using one of those services (like http://www.usernamecheck.com/) that checks all of the main social networks to be sure someone hasn’t taken it, so you are free to brand it that way as well.

Yeah – we’ve done the checks, have the domain, etc. Waiting on the LLC approval at this point. Worked with a branding strategist (www.satowstrategies.com) and really fine tuned our focus. Just needing to get different pieces of media finalized at this point!

On the topic of business names I’m having trouble trademarking the name of my site, BriefingWire.com (a free press release distribution site). The USPTO rejected the name saying the words “briefing” and “wire” are “merely descriptive”.

So I’m wondering if 1) do you trademark the names of your domains and 2) do you consider this when searching for a name that speaks to your business and is highly marketable/palatable?

What a great question Dennis. This was something we considered when we decided to consult with a branding expert. We wanted something entirely brandable. By this I mean, something quick and easy, yet relative/descriptive and something that can be trademarked. These were all factors that went into the name change and should be taken into account for any business naming opportunities.
