4346242604 4589886144 Social Media Impact of Google BuzzDespite the fact that it’s only been online for about two weeks, Google Buzz has already created a stir among both users and competitors. Because it’s tied directly into user G-mail accounts, Buzz already has more members than Twitter, including many who were not yet part of the social media scene. When the dust from Google’s bombshell settles, two questions will remain to be answered: What makes Google Buzz unique and will it present serious competition for Facebook and Twitter, the two current social media giants?

What’s all the fuss about?

The primary reason Google Buzz has already captured the attention of millions of users is that it’s connected directly to their email accounts. It’s easy to check when you already have your email open, and you can see immediately if new posts are available. Users cite sociability, ease of use, convenience, and accessibility as top reasons they enjoy Google Buzz. In its first week of operation, Google Buzz was already garnering more than 160,000 comments every hour. As more people become familiar with what the service has to offer, that number can be expected to increase exponentially.

The initial launch of Google Buzz sparked concerns about privacy since the service was connected directly to email accounts and therefore allowed not only your email address but also your email habits to be easily figured out. While the concerns are legitimate, Google’s response has been stellar. They have already changed the feature which automatically “followed” the contacts you e-mail most often so that it automatically suggests these contacts to you instead and they’ve instituted settings capabilities which allow you to deactivate Buzz altogether if you choose to.

Where is Google Buzz headed?

Just a few weeks ago it was hard to imagine a social media service that could present serious competition for Facebook and Twitter. Today, it’s impossible not to take seriously the potential that Google Buzz has not only to compete with the two biggest networking sites online, but even to outrank them eventually. Every extra minute that people spend on their Gmail accounts is a minute not spent on other social media sites. With millions of users on Facebook alone, even ten minutes less per person adds up to millions of lost posts. This means that advertisers will need to begin considering the inclusion of Google Buzz in their marketing strategy, which will almost certainly pull advertising dollars away from elsewhere on the social media landscape.

Google Buzz arrived with fanfare and it’s not likely to go anywhere soon. Google already has more features waiting in the wings and it’s only a matter of time before we begin seeing the development of mobile apps. Online social networking will never be the same.

In my opinion Twitter has its own place to be updated with the big personalities or big companies news, but when we talk about buzzing between friends, there is only one service, i.e google buzz

Again, Google produced another great feature to cater the needs of all their users. However, just like Facebook, some concern social networking members/users are complaining about the privacy option of Google Buzz. They should react on this one immediately.

Google buzz is really interesting because once we open out our email we can easily see updates from other people, its pretty convenient but I think there are some problems because we need to add a lot of email addresses so that we can generate traffic. But we are now more prone to spams.

alright, by now google buzz is about four months old and as far as i can tell, it still has no impact at all… is it dead already? or are they going to make more out of this anytime soon? the only thing they did right, was to connect all gmail users with the service automatically. but besides that i think it fails pretty much.

Twitter is quite good. But then, since Buss is integrated with the email, it would be more easier to get into it while checking on your emails. It may not be popular with other internet users since not all uses the Gmail. Before you can use the Buzz, you must have a Gmail account first, unlike with other networking sites.

Orkut was first step in Community Site war by Google, started in 2004 as a community site to combat MySpace, but it gained popularity in limited number of countries including Brazil, India, etc.

Gmail has 176 million users in December, according to ComScore (SCOR). That left it behind Microsoft’s Hotmail, which had 369 million, and Yahoo! Mail, with 304 million. Still, Google grew 44% over the same month in 2008—more than triple the average rate of growth for the category, according to ComScore.

Then again, the same can be said of Facebook. In February, the company said it more than doubled its number of users from the previous year, to 400 million. With such a mass of interconnected users, the company is extending its social influence across the Web—helping users find information, on many sites, through their friendships rather than more traditional means like search. The Palo Alto (Calif.) company may also be planning to move squarely onto Gmail’s turf: On Feb.5, the blog TechCrunch reported that Facebook is developing a more full-featured Web e-mail product. Facebook spokeswoman Meredith Chin declined to discuss the company’s plans regarding messaging.

I agree with “Social Media Marketing Agentur” there: what impact has Google Buzz made? None whatsoever, as far as I can see. I think the product has pretty much failed. It would have made more impact if it was brought out before Twitter, but that not’s the case. Also, whatever happened to Google Wave? I never hear anything about it either.

Google buzz works great for me. It’s easy to because of plug-ins that is more convenient for social media. it is also convenient because I use gmail so it will automatically link for social media. What’s good about it is that there is a healthy competition between the two that are both beneficial to the users.

I’m still a Twitter fan. Google Buzz is OK, but definitely didn’t live up to its expectations. I’ve heard some talk about Google coming out with a new, better version of Buzz that will integrate seamlessly with some other social media platforms. Looking forward to seeing a new update from them soon.
