Hi, I just saw this one at the popular posts above. I mostly agree with you on the part 'Guaranteed Rankings', this is obviously a scam. SEO always changing, there's Panda update too!

These are great tips! When looking for an SEO company you should ask them about these exact topics and see if they can be honest about it all or if they will try to pull the wool over your eyes. Good companies will don't need to lie to you to get your business.

Great list Justin, thanks. I would add to beware of some messages coming in asking to exchange reciprocal links with a high PR site. I'm never been a big fan of these links so I usually don't answer these emails but I read on another blog about a webmaster having bad experiences with unscrupulous people offering high PR reciprocal links, in the end, it harmed his site, the reciprocal site lost all PR quickly and was considered a very bad neighbourhood link.

Thanks for these post. Ive recently tried to find some SEO company to work with one of my small sites, but actually Ive seen all these scams by myself. Mostly ive seen companies that have "guarantee" to put my site to the first places at engines.

I am often left in amazement for most of the times with the experience I have with other clients who are too naive about the SEO work but then wanted a ranking in a blink of an eye. Sometimes what makes it hard for SEO workers is the aim for the page 1 ranking which sometimes would take long especially if the keyword is so competitive that you will still have to find options to better hit the mark. But then again this people wanted result which of course any SEO would provide the only thing is this clients should also know the limitations or boundaries of what can be done so far and then move on.

Wow! This is a very informative blog and I commend you for taking the time to write this and share this to us.

I think that because of the increasing unemployment rate of some countries and the economic crises that we are facing right now, people tend to do some silly things like scamming other people just to get money.

The best thing that a person should do is to be educated about the different facets of Search engine optimization. It is wise to investigate about the SEO company you are dealing with and ask relevant questions. I also think that it is wise to visit some forums and read blogs like this to become aware of the possible scams out there.

People should carefully choose the right SEO to handle their website. Believing in false promises will not only cost you money but may also affect your website.

@ Justin:
In my case, we've been doing it for 6 months. If you can make it by one month then it means you're working like a dog.
