#10 – Nearly 250 millions searches are performed per day on Google alone.

#9 – Online marketing = a virtual salesman 24/7/365

#8 – Natural search result listings are 85% of all clicks, as opposed to only 15% for Pay Per Click (PPC)

#7 – Online marketing up an average of 8.6% a year through 2011. $41B spent in 2007, $69B by 2011

#6 – Online marketing currently at 7.6% of all media advertising spending is projected to be at 15.2% in 2013.

#5 – E-Commerce sales will grow 4.4% in 2009  to $141B, and jump to 16.5% in growth in 2010.

#4 – Recent Phoenix Business Journal states an estimated $25B leaving print media and going directly to internet marketing.

#3 – Your competitors are getting wise! SEO utilization is at 39% of all businesses, up from 19% in 2007.

#2 – Increased brand visibility and awareness as 8 out of 10 people find companies they eventually do business with online.

#1 – Best way to initiate a direct response as it is the only form of marketing that puts you in front of targeted prospective customers who are looking exactly for what you offer.

These stats are from all kinds of various marketing reports, most of which come from www.marketingsherpa.com. Hopefully, you find this information helpful. If you have additional statistics that you think warrant placement in this list, please share!

All you say is truth. Without SEO there is almost none change that your site will become visible to anyone except yourself, your girlfriend and your mama. That is pity because the popularity of sites should be based on their content, not marketing, but what can we do about it? Nothing, web marketing is the whole branch of tools and applications to increase site’s traffic and it is still growing fast. Soon there will be probably no site that is not using some SEO efforts to become visible and search engine results.

“SEO utilization is at 39% of all businesses, up from 19% in 2007.” – a good reason indeed. I started in the business of SEO in 1997, before it was even called “SEO.” Back then, we referred to it simply as “internet marketing” or “web promotion” and almost no one even had the slightest clue of how to get ranked in the search engines. Ironically, it was a lot easier back then, so the learning curve was not so steep. Now, most small business owners at least know what SEO is…many of them engage in some SEO themselves and those that don’t have the inclination to test the waters with their own time will pay someone to do it for them. So, yes, this is a *very* good reason to use SEO – whether you are or not, your competitors likely are!

Great article Justin. A lot of people still don’t really understand what SEO is all about. I didn’t realise where I was going wrong with my internet business until I realised I was on the 5th page of Google. I tried to up the marketing of my side and got myself to the 3rd page. I’m still working on it but as soon as I get up to the first page I’m sure my business will grow much quicker.

It is hard to understand why so many people are still so adverse to the internet when you see these numbers. A lot of small business owners would have businesses double or triple their current size if they were to harness the power of the internet.

Nice post Justin. SEO is very helpful t increase traffic to your website but you have to pay for the people doing it. How about driving traffic with no payments at all? That is the role of offline advertising. For example, I’ve had great luck with postcards, display ads, classified ads and recently radio advertising, which I am finding very interesting for driving qualified leads to my business.
